Fearless Pensioner Fights Off Thief Who Tried To Steal Her Bank Card

It takes a pretty sick individual to target an elderly person, hoping, because of their old age, they'll be more vulnerable and potentially be able to get away with the crime.

Whether it's petty theft or something more serious, the criminal's moral code must be scraping the bottom of the barrel to pick on someone who's in their sunset years.

But we shouldn't write off the elderly completely for not being able to stick up for themselves.

That couldn't be more true than for an OAP who was captured beating the hell out of a thief who tried to steal her bank card.

Doreen Jones was standing at a cash machine while withdrawing money in Birmingham when a thug came up behind her and tried to nick the card. Well, the 81-year-old wasn't having any of it and snatched it back, all while grabbing the thief by her hair and collar.

She gave the attempted criminal the scare of her life, forcing the wannabe thief to run off.

Speaking to BBC's Crimewatch, Doreen said: "She wasn't expecting me, I tell you. I thought, 'No, you're not having my money, I've worked hard for that'.

"She started screaming. I don't know why she was screaming, it was me that should have been screaming and crying."

Sadly, while Doreen came out on top of the situation, she's since suffered two heart attacks.

Police have released the footage to the BBC in a bid to find the woman who tried to ruin Ms Jones' day.

West Midlands Police PSI Peter Rawlings also told Crimewatch: "We believe she was watching Doreen before the incident and targeted her because she was elderly and had a stick.

"Doreen's a tough lady and this suspect chose the wrong pensioner.

"But it has had an effect on Doreen, she has had heart problems since the incident which may be linked."

It's similar to the story of the OAP who fended off a wannabe robber with her walking stick.
